Information on Transferring

Every college or university has an official office that oversees issues of transfer credits to and from that institution. At Colorado State University, this office is called the Transfer Evaluation Office and is located within Enrollment Services.

A transfer office has the responsibility of evaluating all credits which are submitted for potential transfer. You should consult both your academic advisor and the transfer office at your starting school FIRST when exploring transfer questions or issues.

Transferring Credits
Colorado State University has created a web-based tool to assist students who wish to transfer credits. The u.select system is available at http://transfer.org/. If your current school is listed in the state drop-down menu, you will be able to enter the classes you are taking or wish to take at your current school and see if they will transfer to CSU, and whether there is an equivalent course at CSU.

If your current school is not listed in the u.select system, you may contact the Degree Transfer Evaluation Office at Colorado State University for assistance at (970) 491-7159.

Transfer versus Equivalent Credits
Many credits transfer between institutions, but not all credits represent equivalent classes. For example, you may have four semester credits in biology transfer to Colorado State University, but these transfer credits may not be equivalent to the biology class recommended for pre-health profession requirements and/or for your selected major.

To determine if your class is equivalent to a CSU pre-health professions requirement, look at the course description for the comparable Colorado State course (www.catalog.colostate.edu); then use the u.select system: http://transfer.org/ ) to determine whether your course is equivalent to CSU's course. If your school or course is not listed in u.select, contact the Degree Transfer Evaluation Office at CSU at (970) 491-7159.

Transferring Credits for your Selected Major at CSU
Not all courses accepted for transfer to Colorado State University necessarily count toward a specific degree. The departmental requirements for the various bachelors' degrees vary and, therefore, the department determines which courses must be completed to satisfy curriculum requirements. Specific academic departments at CSU may accept or reject courses for major requirements that are accepted by CSU for transfer credits.

When you are considering transferring to a specific major at CSU, contact the Key Adviser: https://secure.casa.colostate.edu/applications/keyadv/keyAdvList.cfm for that major.

It will be extremely helpful to have your official transfer evaluation for CSU in hand when you contact your Key Advisor.
